Design; “The most important part of my life”

Tell us who you are in one sentence.

I am Akash Soti, Ruby on Rails developer/product designer, explorer and the biggest Jonathan Ive fan.

If you weren’t a designer, what would you do?

Design for me started really early, when I was a kid, I liked building stuff, beautiful stuff!! If I wasn’t a designer I surely been an Architect, building smart places for people to call it home.

What is something you wished you designed, either because you love it, or because you feel you could have done it better?

I honestly pray to be a part of Medium, I really do! every day working hard, brushing up on my skills so that I could place my self with the most creative and smart people in the world. I love and adore the way simple, subtle things have been done building Medium. Typography looks impeccable. It draws attention before it is read. Yet in order to be read, it relinquishes the attention it has drawn. It motivates the user to write, read in the most beautiful way.

What was your biggest design mistake?

I am still learning, doing a lot of mistakes for which I am being literally yelled at sometimes. The biggest mistake is yet to be done, I hope it makes me an even better designer.(Watch out for this space)

What advice would you give someone entering the design field?

Follow a lot of good designers, learn how they do stuff, how they communicate, think and get things done. Watch a lot of designs, decode the thought process behind. The most important thing, “BUILD”. Build what you believe in, anything, give it a start! and keep learning and practicing.
